FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are intelligent material handling systems that use onboard sensors and software to transport materials throughout manufacturing and warehouse environments without manual operation or fixed routes.

Unlike Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), AMRs navigate dynamically without magnetic tape, floor guides, or predefined paths. This gives manufacturers greater flexibility to adapt workflows, reroute traffic, and scale automation as operations change.

Think of it this way: AGVs operate more like trains confined to a track, while AMRs operate more like vehicles on a highway, able to navigate around obstacles and adjust routes in real time.

OTTO AMRs are commonly used for pallet movement, lineside replenishment, work-in-progress transport, cart movement, warehouse transfers, and automated material delivery throughout manufacturing operations. Learn more about how customers are using OTTO:

WAREHOUSE & LOGISTICS

Yes. OTTO solutions can integrate with manufacturing and warehouse systems including ERP, MES, PLC, and warehouse management platforms to support connected operations and real-time visibility. Our experts will be with you throughout the planning, implementation process and beyond, helping you ensure your OTTO AMRs fit cohesively into your facilities ecosystem.

OTTO AMRs reduce manual transport tasks, minimize production bottlenecks, improve material flow, and support more efficient use of labor across manufacturing and warehouse operations. By automating repetitive material movement, manufacturers can keep production running more consistently, reduce non-value-added travel time, and improve overall workflow visibility across the facility.

OTTO AMRs are designed to operate safely alongside people in dynamic manufacturing and warehouse environments. Equipped with safety-rated LiDAR, 3D camera sensors, and onboard intelligence, OTTO AMRs continuously monitor their surroundings to support obstacle detection, collision avoidance, route planning, and emergency stopping.

OTTO AMRs are also designed to safely navigate shared traffic areas with other vehicles and equipment, including intersections and passing scenarios. Site-specific “rules of the road” can be configured to support safe and efficient material movement, including:

  • Speed limits
  • Exclusion or restricted zones
  • Stop and yield zones
  • Honk notifications before motion resumes
  • One-way traffic lanes

OTTO AMRs adhere to the following safety standards:

  • ANSI/ITSDF B56.5
  • RIA R15.08-1 (co-authored by OTTO)
  • ISO 12100/13849-1/3691-4
  • FCC Part 15 Subpart B/ICES-003, ICES-002
  • EN 1175-1/60204-1
